Hello there!
Whose the mom of a 2 year old??? This girl! Yup my Bean turned 2 in July...were did time go??? Since the last time we talked health wise I've been ok. I got diagnosed with hypothryroidism (which runs in my family) and have experienced more palpitations than I have in the past but my cardiologist assures me that it's because part of my heart is still slightly enlarged (despite it being "normal size") so it's a matter of not over doing physical activity, not stressing too much, etc to avoid those palps. I still deal with the occasional panic attack...like recently I got sick and I couldn't breathe well because I was all congested so that made me freak out a bit, but it's nothing I can't handle. My ptsd doesn't debilitate me like it used to at first.
At the Bean's 18 month appointment we were informed by his pediatrician that she had heard a heart murmur. So we ended up having to go to Albuquerque to see a pediatric cardiologist so she could do an echocardiogram on the little dude. The truth is that was an incredibly emotional experience for me. I have echos all the time, I know they are no big deal but to see my baby scared and having to go thru that was well emotional for lack of a better word! It took all I had not to cry. They had to drug my poor little dude because he doesn't stay still...EVER. But luckily they were able to tell us that day that he has a perfectly normal heart!! Which made for one very happy mommy and daddy! I cried of relief (incidentally I remember getting palps that day because I was so stressed out). The cardiologist did recommend I take him to a cardiologist that specializes in genetic cardiology in 5 years or so to make sure that my heart problems don't necessarily mean he'll have heart problems because as she put it, "knowledge on cardiomyopathy of any kind is ever changing, what we know today might not be necessarily true in 5 years."
The truth is I'm in a really happy place in life right now and I hope it never goes away. I don't take life for granted. I don't take my little miracle baby for granted...even when he's being a little hurricane! Yes I get frustrated with him and sometimes even mad at him but it always comes down to this--he's a happy, HEALTHY, active, too smart for my own good little boy so of course he's going to cause trouble LOL and that thought keeps me from loosing my mind to the terrible twos LOL. Until next time!
